Work / Purpose / Play is an ongoing self-directed project by Amy Story. The work uses archive film footage, paper and digital collages and includes some interactive elements. It’s currently exhibiting online and in-person at Linden Print Studio, near Carlisle.

Artist Statement
I began working on the paper collages as a form of experimentation. I was interested in creating some abstract artwork around the themes of ‘work’ but without any set goal in mind. I found working in the medium of collage very stimulating and satisfying.

A visual style for the project emerged through my materials - mainly old sugar paper which lent a 1950’s textbook feel to the collages. This also suited the shapes I was creating, a mix of curved forms and geometric shapes. I then took the collages in to a video format by using archive footage to digitally cut out similar shapes to the paper collages. Once I was working on both the paper and video collages, elements from both would feed back into each other, creating a call and response process.
